Happenings

It's really weird to be the adviser all of the sudden after 5 years of college and 4 years of HS being the advisee. They sort of hate me. They're all morally outraged that I want them to fill out forms and do budgets. It's kind of funny to watch because I keep seeing myself at some point in my life before today. Every time one of them pops off I remember times when I thought my advisers had lost their freaking minds too. I sort of enjoy the parallel; but it does make me want to write a lot of sorry / thank you notes!

Don't worry; I haven't beaten any of them....yet.

My apologies...

I have neglected my blog. It has been an insane January, and I will take a moment to recap it here...

New Year's Eve:
Went to Muldrow to MEET THE FAMILY. Please insert scary music here. It was good, but very intimidating. On New Year's Eve I met his mom and neice (I had already met his sister) and essentially 3 million friends from High School / Junior College. I still am not sure his mom likes me.

Highlight: His mom reminding him--at almost 24 years of age--not to smoke or drink.

New Year's Day:
Waited for like 2 hours for him and his family to wake up. I, clearly, was too wired to sleep. I mean, I'm in his childhood room and his dog keeps coming in trying to figure out who I am and I know he's on the floor of the living room and it was just awkward. When everyone finally was up and about, we went to his grandparent's for New Year's Day lunch. They made HOG JOWL. For LUCK. I lied and said I had taken a piece when I actually hadn't. Then his grandparents. greatgrandparents, great aunt / uncles, aunts/uncles, cousins, and immediate family divided into pro-Arkansas or anti-Arkansas to watch the football game. I scored big time when asked if I believed in the Lord (in reference to why Arkansas was so good this year) and I answered "Yes, and that He's a Sooner fan.". I convinced Kyle it was his idea to come back to Norman to watch the football game instead of staying another night. We went to a watch party but I don't even want to talk about the travesty of football that went on.

Highlight: Kyle telling his aunt / cousin / 28 children that they are welcome in Norman because I have a 3 bedroom house.

The First Week / Weekend of January:
Erin got married January 6, so there was a slew of wedding prep type things that had to be taken care of. I was mainly out of the panic loop (thank goodness since the caterer ended up being a no-show and the chairs were stolen for the Inauguration). I was simply assigned to party favors and pantyhose, and I did those jobs admirably. Abby came out for the wedding, and a plethora of one-liners ensued. Here are my favorite:

"No one worry, the vulcanized rubber has been located." -Erin S.

"Well, honey, if anyone here needs mouth-to-mouth you'd be my first pick..." Tom's dad to Abby at the Rehearsal Dinner

"I'm going to put this chimichanga on my blog..." -Abby, in a bold food posting move

Now...
School starts soon, I am back at work, the world is in some semblance of order. Except Kyle's aunt called last night to tell us they will all be in Norman next Saturday. HOLY CRAP...
